This tour is hosted by NT Bird Specialists, and guided by local specialist bird guide Like Paterson. Ten species of parrots, including the locally endemic Hooded Parrot, Red-winged Parrot, Cockatiel and Northern Rosella, rightfully makes the historic gold mining and railway township of Pine Creek the ‘Top End’s home of parrots’. With 5 common finch species breeding in the region, including the spectacular Gouldian Finch, it’s no wonder why guests love seeing these inland bursts of colour on this two day bird watching tour in Pine Creek.

Day 1
We start by taking advantage of the early morning and scope out some of the best birding sites in Darwin. We look for species such as Rainbow Pitta, Rufous Owl, Barking Owl, Azure Kingfisher and Orange-footed Scrubfowl. After a hearty lunch we travel to our accommodation in Pine Creek, home of the illustrious Hooded Parrot in the midst of an outback historic town.

Day 2
We concentrate in the local region for the best chances of finches including Masked, Long-tailed, Crimson, Double-barred and mesmerizing Gouldian Finch. We travel back to Pine Creek where 10 species of parrot are regularly seen including Red-tailed Black-Cockatoo, Northern Rosella, Varied Lorikeet and Red-winged Parrot. Getting our parrot fix, we then travel back to Darwin.
