Welcome to the 61st Annual Conference of the Ecological Society of Australia (ESA)

To be held in Darwin, Australia from 22-26 November 2021.

In 2021 the Conference theme is ‘Renewal’.

Please join us in Darwin for ESA2021 and experience the Larrakia season of Baln-ba. This is the time of the first rains, brought on by the green tree frog, Gulbul-wa, whose deafening calls announce the coming of the wet. Electrical storms charge the night skies, and our favourite shellfish are ready to be collected. Green, black and milky plums start fruiting, and bush potato is ready for digging up. The spear grass starts to shoot and tree leaves flush. It is a time of renewal. I look forward to welcoming you to our special place.

In a post-covid, post-black summer world, at ESA2021 we will explore a renewal in our relationships with each other and with nature, as our land recovers from fire, drought and flood.

The venue is the Darwin Convention Centre, set within the lush tropical setting of the Darwin Waterfront Precinct.

Please note that ESA2021 will be an in-person conference. All presenters are asked to attend the conference in Darwin as a full or day-delegate. The conference organisers are closely monitoring restrictions that may apply due to the COVID-19 pandemic and attendees can be assured that social distancing and hygiene precautions will be in place.
